Twenty-three different places were specifically named, as well as more than a dozen pets, foods, and other things. In the end, I was so overwhelmed by capital letters that I didn't really care who or what they were. If you read the story without ever making an attempt to follow any of the people's names except the protagonist, you'll find a puzzling mystery with a clever solution.
All the clues are available to solve it, if you can separate them from the clutter of information.

To be honest I was most drawn to it because of the cover illustration by the great Brett Helquist, but the book didn't disappoint. In it we are treated to a mystery of a stolen gymnastics trophy, and our main character- Bethesda- is determined to solve it. Winters does a great job with Bethesda- she is eminently capable and confident with out being annoyingly precocious or conceited. Also the novel is full of fun pop cul Note: Also the novel is full of fun pop culture references, especially to do with music.
I must warn that this book is actually a sequel to Winters other book: But if you are like me and haven't read that book you can still enjoy "The Mystery of the Missing Everything", and if anything it will spark an interest for the previous novel I've since added "The Secret Life of Mrs. Finkleman" to my "To-Read" list, actually. Finkleman", by Ben H. Winters which drove me to read "The Mystery of the Missing Everything". I guess what drew me was the quirky title.
I just wanted to see what the book was about. Bethesda Fielding is back to her investigating. She and her eighth grade class at Mary Todd Lincoln Middle School are thrown into another mystery that involves the only trophy in the Achievement Alcove.
The principal is livid that someone stole it. She threatens that all extra curriculum activities will be halted until the trophy is returned. This prompts Bethesda to vow that she will find the trophy so that the eighth grade class can go on their one week nature trip at Taproot Valley. I think for a person who is between this book is targeted for would get pretty impatient about finding out who actually did it and why.
I am in my forties and I was getting impatient. A lot of characters in the story had a lot to hide plus their were 9 suspects that she and her friend Tenny had to interview. The book was interesting, but I was getting kind of bored in the middle of the book. Sep 26, Rick Stuckwisch rated it it was amazing. This was a great fun read. Picked it up for Oly at the library sale, and she liked it well enough to recommend it for the rest of us to enjoy, which we certainly did.

Snappy story, with just the right amount of intrigue, humor, and personality. I've already ordered the previous book, "The Secret Life of Ms. Finkleman," from Amazon marketplace. Re This was a great fun read. Reading this again after five years, and enjoyed every bit as much as the first time. Very clever and sweet, well written, and captivating. A great middle-school junior-high level read, but no less fun for teens and adults.

This includes the eighth grade field trip to Taproot Valley. So Bethesda Fielding decides its time to put on her detective hat and find out who did it and save the field trip. I enjoyed reading this book but I do have to say that there were way too many names of people that you are suppose to remember. At times it got confusi What a cute book.
At times it got confusing but if you stick with it you have a very delightful book. I won this book from Goodreads. Sep 12, Mark Mccarragher marked it as to-read. Was a Goodreads winner of this book and have not recieved it yet. I have tried contacting the publisher and author on Goodreads, Facebook, twitter, and thier website and not heard any thing back. Would really like to properly review this book but am not able to due to lack of communication, and shipment of the book.
